Growing concern about the political situation in Peru

The protests in Peru, especially in the southern Andean regions, are not abating. After his failed attempt to dissolve parliament, Peru's former president Pedro Castillo was arrested at the beginning of December. Since then, the protesters have been demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the bringing forward of new elections. So far, the violent mass protests have claimed nearly 70 lives and injured thousands.
