Vocational Education in Focus

The meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, and the Head of Government of Liechtenstein, Brigitte Haas, on 20 January 2026 highlights the growing importance of cooperation between Liechtenstein and Moldova.

For the Liechtenstein Development Service (LDS), this political signal is particularly significant. The LDS’s work in Moldova was explicitly acknowledged, and education was identified as a key area for a possible expansion of cooperation.

From 2007 to 2017, the LDS implemented and financed projects at all levels of education, ranging from early childhood education to vocational training. Since 2017, the portfolio has focused on vocational education and training. These projects aim to improve access to education, enhance the quality of training, and provide young people with better professional prospects.

During the talks, the contribution of the LDS was explicitly highlighted. At the same time, options for further expanding the project portfolio were explored. There was a clear shared interest, particularly in the field of vocational and technical education. This form of education plays a decisive role in the country’s economic development, in the integration of young people into the labour market, and in the establishment of sustainable structures.

For the LDS, this represents an important signal. It confirms that the long-standing engagement in Moldova is having an impact, is being recognised, and is regarded as a relevant contribution to the country’s development. At the same time, the meeting opens perspectives for new projects and deeper partnerships.

The LDS will continue to work closely with local partner organisations to strengthen educational opportunities, build vocational skills, and support sustainable development processes in the Republic of Moldova.
