Enhancing Coordination in Liechtenstein’s International Development Cooperation

International development cooperation depends on coordination, exchange and shared objectives. At the beginning of February, the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) met with the Office for Foreign Affairs (AAA) for a joint IHZE exchange to discuss current developments and further strengthen cooperation.

The meeting focused on strategic priorities, ongoing programmes and current challenges in Liechtenstein’s international humanitarian aid and development cooperation. The exchange enabled both institutions to present their areas of work in greater depth and to identify key areas of collaboration.

The LED presented its Strategy 2023–2026 as well as its thematic priorities of sustainable food systems and vocational education. Project managers provided insights into programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. They demonstrated how agroecological approaches contribute to food security and how vocational training programmes support young people in entering the labour market.

The Office for Foreign Affairs, in turn, presented its current fields of activity. These include emergency and reconstruction assistance, multilateral development cooperation, and engagement in refugee and migration assistance. The reconstruction of Ukraine and international climate policy were also discussed.

In addition to technical topics, discussions also addressed public communication, joint events and future cooperation. The regular dialogue between the LED and AAA helps to identify developments at an early stage, create synergies and further strengthen Liechtenstein’s international cooperation efforts.

The exchange once again highlighted the importance of close coordination between strategic governance, operational project work and international networking. It forms an essential basis for Liechtenstein to fulfil its international responsibilities in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
