The two adolescents in the photo are the participants in the «Technical Irrigation Systems» training programme» at the Bolivian technical college San Marti in the Chuquisaca region in the south of the country. Together with other young people and small farmers, they are not only gaining access to future-oriented professional qualifications that will make it easier for her to enter the labour market, but is also acquiring crucial expertise, such as how they can make water use in agriculture more sustainable with the help of professional irrigation systems. They and all other graduates of the programme help to protect water resources and thus the livelihoods of many farming families in the region. In this way, the young men and women are also making an important contribution beyond the project to making the region, which is severely affected by water shortages, more resilient to the consequences of climate change.

This study programme is supported by the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) as part of a vocational training project (more information on this project can be found on the project sheet). The project also strengthens the quality of the degree programme and the university of applied sciences as an educational institution. The project is being implemented by the local LED partner organisation Fautapo.
